Miriam Mills

Working 26 hours a week has allowed me to continue building a career I love while being present for the moments that matter most to our family. I can spend time with our children after school, attend school events during the day, and be more available during the school holidays.

I am incredibly grateful to TEG, Technical Engineering Group, for creating a flexible part-time role that is a genuine match for my skills, experience and career. If I work beyond my contracted hours, I receive time in lieu, which gives me the flexibility to take additional time away during the school holidays.

Part-time work has not limited my ability to lead or contribute at a senior level. I manage a team of eight Project Managers and am a member of TEG’s Senior Leadership Team. Because my team members are based at client sites, we have built a way of working based on trust, clear communication and flexibility. They know that if I cannot answer immediately, I will call them back as soon as I can.

I want other people, and employers, to see that meaningful leadership roles do not have to be full-time. It is absolutely possible to manage a team, contribute strategically and continue progressing in your career while working part-time.
